Warplane profile: Gloster Goldfinch

A very decent Tier 1 fighter plane in World of Warplanes, was actually in reality just a prototype plane with only one model ever being built. It was designed by H.P. Folland.

The Goldfinch was 22ft (6.7m) in length and had a wingspan of 30 ft (9.14 m), it was armed with two synchronised 0.303 inch Vikkers forward firing machine guns.

The first variant blueprint, had a mixed design of metal and wood for the fuselage with fabric covers on the wings but was later made to have an all metal build and improved fins on the tail.

The plane had it's first trial run in May of 1927, it was reported to have good manoeuvrability and a decent climb rate however the load and fuel requirements failed to meet the standard and the plane ended up being rejected. It would be replaced by the Bristol Bulldog.

In Popular Culture

Despite only being a prototype in history, the Goldfinch is a playable aircraft in World of Warplanes.

The aircraft is a Tier 1 fighter, playable from the very start of the game. In my personal opinion, it boasts good turning and very decent machine guns. It was my second most use plane when I first started with the game.
